Course Surfaces

Most of the course mileage is runnable. Trekking poles are allowed but only really helpful on the first climb. The trails are all well maintained and generally not exceptionally steep or technical. The first 4.3 miles are almost exclusively singletrack trail, with one major climb shortly after the start for one mile, then another more moderate climb from mile 1.6 to 2.3, then a significant descent from mile 2.3 to 3.5, then is mostly flat for the next 3 miles to the finish. There are many technical trail areas with shallow spruce tree roots and rocky sections to negotiate in the first 4.3 miles as well. Footbridges can be very slick — use caution on wood and smooth rock surfaces! The final 2.2 miles is very flat and fast, as the course follows the Oregon Coast Trail after crossing Hwy 101 while skirting the coastal bluffs along the edge of Yachats to the finish.
